Do You Need to Repair Your Water Heater?

The water heater for your home can be an electric unit or a
gas unit. This means that there are several different reasons that a unit may need a repair. At Plumbing Solutions, LLC, we have found the follow four issues to be strong indicators that a water heater is in need of repairs.

Temperature Issues

This is the biggest factor that can indicate your water heater needs a repair. The temperature of your water is not constant, there may be a problem with the thermostat. You can check the setting of the unit by yourself. If you find that the setting is correct, a repair may be needed to replace the thermostat. The temperature of the water in the tank should be between 120 and 140 degrees. If you do not have any hot water at all,
the heating element may be broken or defective.

Noise Issues

Noises coming from your hot water heater are a definite sign that something is wrong with the unit and a repair may be necessary. Noises coming from the tank are typically caused by sediments that build up over time. Debris in the tank can make contact with the heating element that can create noise. You need to
contact a plumber to drain the tank, remove built up sediment, and ultimately, fix the problem. The water heater may also have a heating element that is going bad. This can also cause noises.

Leaking Tank

A hot water heater that is leaking is a significant sign that you need to either repair or replace the unit. This will be based on the nature of the problem. You need to contact a plumber to examine the unit to determine if a repair or replacement is necessary. The size and place of the leak is also a factor when determining whether a repair or replacement is needed to address the problem. Drips from the overflow valve are typically normal but can be an indication that the heating element is overheating the water.

Appliance Age

Age is also a contributing factor to any repairs that are needed on your hot water heater. Older units are prone to fail as the parts get old. However, some parts that have failed may be easily replaced. This is a cheaper option that purchasing a new unit, but will largely depend on the overall condition of the unit. If your unit is beyond its expected life,
